Adi Sankaracharya. Kanakadhara means 'the one who holds dhara (stream) of Gold (kanaka). The hymn is called by this name since legend has it that when
Adi Sankaracharya recited it,
Goddess Lakshmi appeared in front of him and unleashed a stream of gold.
