Vahan Puja 2023: Showing Gratitude to Your Vehicles
As Hindus, before we do anything significant, we do it according to Muhrat and perform puja to express our gratitude to god and seek their blessings. Hindus conduct puja for everything from a new house to a new car. These pujas hold significant meaning in our culture.
Vahan Puja is one such puja in which the puja of the vehicle is done to bless it and keep it away from future accidents. There are quite a lot of benefits of doing this puja which we will know more about in this blog.
But what is important is that you need a pandit to do pujas because the mantras and rituals are so complex and different for each puja that it is hard for ordinary people to know until they have studied and gained the knowledge. So if you have purchased a new vehicle, you would need a pandit to perform the puja to bless it and avoid any catastrophe in the future.

What Is Vahan Puja?
Vahan Puja, also known as vehicle puja, is a prominent Hindu ritual. In Hindu culture, whenever people buy some new expensive device, machine, or automobile, they perform a puja before starting the use of that thing in order to revere or bless it.
That is why in Vahan puja, a new vehicle is blessed so that it can harmoniously blend in with a house and avoid future tragedies. People do this puja for every vehicle, be it a motorbike, scooter, car, auto, or truck. A pandit is needed to perform the puja with all the required rituals.
What Is The Significance of Vahan Puja?
Hindus do Vahan Puja to bless their new vehicles and pray so that they maintain harmony with the home and avoid any mishaps and accidents in the future. It is also a way to show gratitude to god for the vehicle because it is a big deal to be able to buy an automobile.
If you bought a vehicle for business purposes, then you also do this puja to pray that this vehicle brings more and more fortune and success to your life.
SmartPuja is a platform that has eased the life of many people by providing pandits online at affordable rates. Hindus need a pandit for every small to big pooja ceremony. It is pretty tough to find a pandit who is not already booked because you can only know a few pandits, and if they are busy, you have no one to perform puja.
Finding a pandit from your region is much more difficult if you have just moved to that city. Even if you manage to book a pandit, your work does not end there. You will have to bring all the puja Samagris, sweets, flowers, etc., which could be next to impossible to manage with such a hectic life, resulting in doing pujas without proper mantras and rituals or even skipping them.
These imperfections can have unintended consequences. Therefore, we at SmartPuja are here to alleviate your anxiety by taking over the duties from you and conducting the puja with the same level of sincerity and devotion that you would have placed into the rites. We provide highly experienced pandits and manage all the other tasks, such as arranging puja Samagri for every occasion.
You can also choose your preferred language, and a pandit who speaks that language and is familiar with the rituals and customs of that region will be assigned to you. SmartPuja offers all these services in Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Ahemdabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune.
What Are The Benefits of Vahan Puja?
There are the following benefits of Vahan Puja.
- Vahan Puja blesses your vehicle and protects it and the people in the automobile from any future catastrophe.
- It brings more and more success and fortune to the business of transport.
- A vehicle is an expensive thing that brings you comfort, and this puja is done to show your gratitude to god for wealth and comfort.

The Link Between Ayudha Puja and Vahan Puja
The Ayudha Puja occurs during the Shardiya Navratri festival on Maha Navami. In Ayudha Puja, instruments are worshipped. People consider all those things that help their growth, including pens, pencils, vehicles, and tools, and worship them on this day. People who own vehicles devote the day to worshipping their vehicles while artisans polish their instruments.
It is common for people to draw a Swastik on their cars, trucks, and buses, which is considered an auspicious symbol during the puja. People also put rice and vermillion on it, which signifies honor. Flowers and mango leaves are also placed on it, which is considered auspicious.
Doing this puja blesses the vehicle and keeps it away from any mishaps. The difference between Vahan Puja and Ayudha Puja is that- Vahan Puja is performed for a new car, and Ayudha Puja is performed for all vehicles regardless of their condition.

How To Perform Vehicle Puja/Vahan Puja?
Book a pandit for vehicle pooja from SmartPuja and bless your vehicle without any hassle. Steps to perform vehicle pooja at home with or without pandit are-
- In preparation for the car pooja, the new vehicle is cleaned and wiped down.
- Pujari will give the sacred water from the Kalash to the owner of the car to wash the right hand. It will be done three times.
- The pandit will give the car owner the rice to put onto the car front.
- The pandit draws a swastika made with turmeric powder and sandalwood paste or water on the car hood. Following the swastika drawing, rice is again given to the car owner to spread on it. For each spread, they need to chant some mantras. Most mantras have lord Ganesha’s name in them.
- After lighting the incense sticks, the priest loops them three times clockwise around the swastika. The pandit installs a Lord Ganesha idol near the steering wheel and then sprinkles sacred water on it.
- The car owner breaks a coconut near the right front tire and sprinkles coconut water on it. The coconut is considered Prasad, and the family members eat it later.
- It is also believed that squashing lemons under the car wheels will prevent bad luck. A new vehicle pooja is then finished by moving the vehicle to the right.
