Bhumi Pujan Vidhi
The rituals and detail of Vidhi of Bhumi Puja may vary (as different communities have different traditions to perform).
But these are some steps that are part and parcel of this ritual
- Start by selecting the ideal spot for the Bhumi Pujan, and that spot (which is now sacred) must first be cleansed with Ganga Jal by the person performing this Puja.
Note: (Ensure you make a 64-part drawing representing various deities at the northeast corner of the site)
- A proficient Pandit who is well-versed in all Vedic rituals and has a good command over mantras should be appointed. There is a reason for this: Having a Pandit at the construction site helps eliminate Vastu Doshas and negative energy.
Note: (The Pandit must face towards the north direction and the performer towards the east direction)
- A hole should be dug by the performer on the northeastern edge of the site.
- Place the idols of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, Navagrahas, Vastu Dev, and God Snake.
- In the same way as any other Puja, Bhumi Puja also begins with the invocation of Lord Ganesha (known as Karta Dharta & Taranahar).
- Lit the lamp with oil or ghee.
- After seeking the blessing of Lord Ganesha, Snake God and Kalash (filled with sacred water & covered with mango leaves & coconut) are revered.
- The coconut (filled with honey, water, and milk) is buried in the ground after being wrapped in red cloth.
- After burying, a small portion of the ground is dug up so the foundation stone can be placed.
During Bhumi Pujan, certain things are offered as the Pandit chants mantras like
- Incense sticks
- Flowers
- Kalava
- Fruits
- Turmeric
- Sandalwood
- Vermillion (Roli)
- Raw rice
- Supari
- Sweets
Upon completing the Puja, all five limes are placed in the four corners of the Pujan site and are crushed.
